Creative officially announces Sound Blaster Extigy
With the Sound Blaster Extigy, Creative has now introduced the first external Sound Blaster that shines with its simple installation via USB. The Sound Blaster Extigy supports games in EAX, music playback with EAX Advanced HD, has an integrated hardware Dolby Digital decoder and CMSS.
The abbreviation CMSS stands for Creative Multi-Speaker Surround and is intended to convert stereo music into real 5.1 surround sound. This technology also enables virtual surround sound. The Sound Blaster Extigy can be used on the fly with different PCs thanks to the problem-free USB connection. When operated without a PC, it functions, for example, as a Dolby Digital decoder for standalone DVD players. In addition, it has an infrared remote control for convenient control of the audio applications as well as easily accessible connections on the front of the device.
On the back of the Sound Blaster Extigy there are analog line outputs for an amplifier or Loudspeaker system and a digital 6-channel connection. There is also another coaxial digital input on the back of the Extigy, and the MIDI inputs and outputs are also located there.
The Sound Blaster Extigy will be available from mid-March at a recommended retail price of 199 euros with an infrared remote control and corresponding software.
