ComputerBase processor charts: An overview of processors from Intel and AMD

Performance

In order to be able to evaluate the performance of each individual processor, we have created a uniform benchmark course that every newcomer has to struggle through. A total of up to 14 individual results are included in the performance evaluation.

Game rating

We have created the game rating for computer games, which is calculated from six individual results. The following benchmarks and applications were used for the test:

  • Madonion 3DMark 2000 - DirectX 7.0
  • Madonion 3DMark 2001 SE - DirectX 8.1
  • Epic Games Unreal Tournament - DirectX 7.0
  • Epic Games Unreal Tournament 2003 - DirectX 8.0
  • Novalogic Comanche 4 - DirectX 8.0
  • id Software Quake3 Arena - OpenGL

Even if we have certainly not taken into account all gamers' hearts, it is still possible to roughly estimate the performance of a processor, in which the graphics card in particular plays a role in this case.

The fastest processor for gaming is still the Pentium 4 in connection with Rambus. The Athlon XP 2400+ to 2800+ can assert themselves very well and only have to admit defeat to the P4 2.8 and 2.66 GHz with Rambus 1066. Unfortunately, they are not yet available. Thus, the currently fastest AMD CPU, the 2200+, is far behind in the midfield.
