Compaq and RealNetworks v Microsoft
Microsoft has successfully usurped the browser market, and the same threatens to happen in the field of multimedia software. With the integration of the media player into the operating system, the user is already given playback software.
Alternatives must first be found on the Internet, downloaded and then installed. RealNetworks wants to create a remedy here through a strategic alliance with Compaq, by setting up Real products as standard multimedia players on its PCs. On top of that, Compaq will try to introduce its new and old customers to the paid offers of RealNetworks. RealNetworks is also striving for alliances with other companies in order to promote the distribution of its own products.
