Chip manufacturer VIA reports decline in sales

The general problems in the industry have also left their mark on VIA Technologies. Overall, the Taiwanese chip manufacturer suffered a 22 percent decline in sales in the third quarter of this year. Total sales in this quarter were no more than 230 million US dollars.

Net profit fell 64 percent to more than 23 million US dollars. VIA named the sharp drop in prices for personal computers as the cause of the poor results, which Intel and AMD already blamed for their poor quarterly results. Especially the strong competition in the hotly contested chipset market, from which SiS, ALi and of course AMD want to cut a piece at the moment, should cause VIA to create. There is also the license dispute between Intel and VIA, which caused great uncertainty among the mainboard manufacturers and thus additional revenue losses.
