Canon announces USB 2.0 scanner
Canon has now announced two scanners that will already have the new USB 2.0 interface. Both devices work with CCD scan elements, which helps to achieve a low overall height and small overall dimensions.
The devices have a resolution of 1200x2400 dpi with an internal 48 bit and an external 24 bit color depth. The D1250U2F model will also have a transparency unit for scanning small-image negatives and slides and will be delivered with a USB 2.0 adapter card from Adaptec. The price for the scanner should be € 139 or € 259. According to Canon, the new USB 2.0 interface should allow a scan speed four times higher than the current USB 1.1 standard. Canon deliberately relies on the still hardly widespread USB 2.0 standard and not on the Firewire standard (IEEE 1394), as the former is backwards compatible with the USB 1.1 standard.
