Bug in via chipset

Via officially admitted a bug in the 686B southbridge today. This is particularly responsible for controlling the peripherals, including IDE, USB, PCI etc., and is located on many current mainboards with AMD or Via chipset. However, only the IDE controller is affected by the bug.

If you transfer large amounts of data between two devices, data can be lost or damaged. However, UDMA must be activated for this, i.e. if the devices only run in PIO mode, no errors whatsoever occur. According to Via, you should be able to fix the problem with a BIOS update. This is currently still being worked on.
