Bluetooth 2.0 will be significantly faster
At the Bluetooth Interest Group Congress in Amsterdam, the developers announced that they wanted to increase the speed of version 2.0 to 12 MByte/s. After all, that is a tripling of the previous Bluetooth 1.1 standard.
As Janhursen, developer at Ericsson, explained However, the range does not change during data transmission, so it is still around 10 meters. Due to the increased speed, the power consumption of the chip will unfortunately double that of the Bluetooth 1.1 chip. The new version should be available from 2004 and shine with improved broadcast and multicast capabilities. The security of this wireless communication technology should also be further improved. Unfortunately, not only will the speed increase with the new version, but also the price of the chips, which will be around 20 percent higher than the price for the Bluetooth version 1.1 chip.
