Billion dollar advertising campaign at WindowsXP start
Before the release of Windows XP on October 25th, Microsoft wants to start advertising campaigns worth millions together with several other companies. Together with Intel, they want to invest a total of 500 million US dollars in advertising for Windows XP and the Intel Pentium 4 processor.
PC dealers and manufacturers should contribute the same amount again. Together with the advertising costs for the X-Box, which will appear in the USA on November 8, Microsoft is spending a total of 700 million US dollars on marketing measures. Together with some smaller advertising measures without Microsoft, Intel will advertise the Pentium 4 with a total of 300 million US dollars. AMD is also clearly behind Windows XP, but so far nothing has been heard of joint advertising campaigns. A Microsoft executive believes 'the fourth quarter will be the biggest thing the industry has ever seen.' In contrast, IDC analysts in the USA fear a further decline in sales figures of 6.3 percent year-on-year. In the end it will show who is right.
