ATi Radeon HD 3600 (RV635) arrives in early '08
After ATi has turned its back on its own high-end product, the Radeon HD 2900, with a successful market launch of the Radeon HD 3800 , the mainstream segment of the Canadian graphics company should now also face a generation change . With the RV635 graphics chip, the Radeon HD 3600 is to replace the HD 2600 at the beginning of 2008.
As in the performance segment With the Radeon HD 3850 and 3870 there will be no 'PRO' or 'XT' in the HD-3600 family, but a Radeon HD 3650 or HD 3670. Their RV635 graphics chip is to be manufactured with a structure width of 55 nm and, like the Radeon HD 2600 , over 120 stream processing units (24 5D vector processors), 16 texture address units (TAUs), eight texture mapping units (TMUs) and four raster operations Units (ROPs). The RV635 brings support for DirectX 10.1, Shader Model 4.1 and PCI-Express-2.0 with it.
A first snapshot of a Radeon HD 3600 that the Asian colleagues from HKEPC published shows a model without a TV-out socket, which is unusual. In theory, it could also be an RV635-based workstation graphics card, an ATi FireGL.
In terms of compatibility, the graphics memory can be designed as GDDR2, GDDR3 or GDDR4 and is connected via a 128-bit memory interface. The clock rates for a Radeon HD 3650 should be 600 MHz core and 1,000 MHz memory clock and for an HD 3670 800 MHz core and 1,600 MHz memory clock. The Radeon HD 3600 is not expected to appear on the market until the new year, with the HD 3670 initially going to start in January and the HD 3650 to follow in late February.
