AthlonXP successor now more than 'just' a die-shrink?
With the always reliable gossip service The Inquirer it is learned that the successor to the AthlonXP will be more than just a shrink. In mid-December, AMD had announced through press spokesman Muzzny that nothing would be changed on the AthlonXP except for the manufacturing process.
But the fact that this could not be quite true is the fact that the colleagues at Planet 3DNow Already noticed earlier, the processor core of the 'Thorougbred' was no longer nearly square but rather elongated, which would speak against a one-to-one shrinking process. The Inquirer is already talking about a possible enlargement of the level 2 cache.
Apparently there should also be a 2200+ variant of the conventional AthlonXP this quarter, which is still with using the old 0.18µ technology.
