Asus CRW-4012A in the test: 40/12/48 burners at a fair price

Foreword

Every year, the business elite, including the hard-working, presents again in time for CeBIT Asus employees, their new technical achievements. In terms of CD-RW burners, this means a burner that, in the case of Asus, writes as fast as the CRW-3212A predecessor model read and can keep up with the reading speed of a conventional CD-ROM drive. In clear figures, this means that the new Asus CRW-4012A writer writes at 40 times the speed, writes at 12 times again and reads at 48 times. Reason enough for us to take a close look at the new burner, which is located on the Integrated Device Electronics Bus (IDE bus).

In addition to the actual burner, the customer receives an IDE and sound cable and, of course, a pack of four screws for fastening in the housing. Furthermore, the customer of course receives two high-speed blank discs (40X CD-R and 12X CD-RW) with 700MB of storage capacity in order to be able to use the full performance of the product immediately. Compared to the predecessor, only the 40X CD-R blank is new here, of course, as nothing has changed in the RW speed compared to the predecessor. However, the 700MB CD-RW blank has to be praised because of its unusually high storage capacity. In order to be able to start burning right away, the well-known Ahead Nero Burning Rom burning software version 5.5.7.5 was included. Of course, the manual and the quick installation instructions are not missing this time either, although this time the manual is more like a booklet.

Manual

The simple installation instructions with each One page per language is now, as it now also supports Turkish, in Sage and Writing 12 languages. In addition to Chinese, English, French, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Russian, Swedish and Turkish, of course, there is also oursNative language represented. The quick start guide contains the most important steps in setting up the burner and supports the user with the installation on both a hardware and a driver basis, whereby this somewhat outdated serial printing still speaks of a driver diskette during the installation for Dos/Win3.x, which does not exist and is of course no longer necessary these days. The actual manual provides the reader with detailed information on specifications, features and technology used about the Asus CRW-4012A burner and also contains installation instructions. As with the predecessor, the manual is unfortunately only written in English and one Asian language, but is well supported by images, so that customers with poor English should not have any problems, and if so, the friendly Asus support will help.
