AOL is suing Microsoft

Yesterday, AOL filed a 20-page complaint against Microsoft on behalf of its subsidiary Netscape. The Wall Street Journal speaks of a sum of 11 billion US dollars (12.36 billion €).

Furthermore, one wants to achieve the restoration of competition in the browser market. AOL invokes the rulings against Microsoft for abuse of its monopoly position in the court proceedings that have been ongoing since 1998. In contrast to the many private lawsuits against Microsoft, US law professors consider this dispute to be of the highest public interest. The decision could 'change the shape of the high-tech market and the nature of competition decisively,' said Bob Lande of the Baltimore Law School in an interview with Cnet. Netscape was bought by AOL in 1999 for $ 10 billion in shares.
