AMD price cuts?

There are still rumors, but as 'The Inquirer' claims to have found out, AMD will cut prices for its processors on April 14th. However, that is exactly the day for which Intel officially announced the price reductions for its processors.

The prices below come from a distributor (wholesaler) in the USA and if you want to believe the data, so the 'boxed' Athlon XP processors with fan will be cheaper than the 'bare' OEM CPUs. Here are the new prices:

CPU OEM price Boxed price Duron 1 GHz EOL EOL Duron 1.1 GHz $ 66 $ 72 Duron 1.2 GHz $ 72 $ 75 Duron 1.3 GHz - $ 82 Athlon XP 1700+ $ 125 $ 122 Athlon XP 1800+ $ 152.5 $ 130 Athlon XP 1900+ $ 210 $ 158 Athlon XP 2000+ $ 254 $ 216 Athlon XP 2100+ $ 295 $ 261

The 'EOL' at Duron 1 GHz means 'End of Life', which means that this CPU will no longer be manufactured. The sometimes considerable differences in the prices of the CPUs compared to the boxed versions are due to a campaign with which AMD wants to introduce the boxed versions to the market faster.
