AMD lowers the price of the Athlon XP

Shortly after the introduction of the new Athlon XP with Palomino core, information was leaked according to which AMD will lower at the end of the month, on October 29 to be precise. This would initiate a new round of price wars.

Because, as the current roadmap from Intel shows, the processor manufacturer for its part will be the day before AMD, on October 28th, the prices for the current Pentium III and Pentium 4 processors. The following price changes are planned according to the current state of information:

Price for the purchase of 1000 pieces
Processor price current From 28.10/29.10 Change AMD Athlon XP 1800+ $ 252 $ 210 -17 % 1700+ $ 190 $ 152 -20% 1600+ $ 160 $ 124 -23% 1500+ $ 130 $ 115 -12% Pentium 4 2.0 GHz $ 562 $ 401 -29% 1.9 GHz $ 375 $ 274 -27% 1.8 GHz $ 256 $ 225 -12 % 1.7 GHz $ 193 $ 193 -0% Pentium III 1.20 GHz $ 267 $ 241 -10% 1.13 GHz $ 225 $ 193 -14% 1.10 GHz $ 242 $ 225 -7%

As you can see from the table, AMD's currently fastest Athlon XP would be cheaper than a 1.8GHz Pentium 4. In a direct performance comparison, however, an Athlon XP 1800+ can even match a Pentium 4 that is almost twice as expensive with a processor clock of 2GHz in some benchmarks.
