AMD laid off 200 employees
As part of the production changeover at Fab 25 in Austin, 200 employees will be laid off from AMD. In the future, the Fab25 will not produce 200mm wafers, but 0.18µm flash memory. Since flash memory production requires fewer employees than wafer production, AMD is laying off 200 employees.
So far, only 200 employees have to vacate their jobs; In the past fiscal year, in which AMD had to record a decline in sales, a total of 2300 employees were laid off. Memory production that AMD is new to getting into could be another key role in the never-ending battle against Intel. After all, Walter Jerry Sanders announced in April that the company wanted to be number one in the production of microprocessors and flash memories by the end of the decade.
