AMD discontinues AMD-760

According to company spokesman Jan Gütter, AMD no longer sees the need for its own chipset, since enough other manufacturers such as ALi, nvidia, SiS and VIA are now producing chipsets for AMD processors.

That means also that some well-known motherboards with the chipset will soon be available as discontinued models at low prices. The dual processor chipset AMD-760MP is not affected by the discontinuation of production, but a successor with e.g. DDR333 support is not planned. At the time, the AMD-760 was the first chipset to support DDR RAM, and it was also the fastest chipset for AMD processors for a long time. It was recently topped off by the SiS735, the VIA KT266A and the nvidia nForce, which this week is available for the first time at Plus for DM 2,499.00 in a complete computer from 4MBO.
