AMD announces Athlon XP 2100+
AMD presented another desktop processor at CeBit today with the Athlon XP 2100+, thus further expanding the Athlon family. The AMD Athlon MP 2000+ for servers and workstations and the Athlon 4 1600+ for notebooks are also new.
However, all of the new ideas have one thing in common: apart from hearing a beat and the resulting higher performance, they don't bring any innovations in architecture or manufacturing technology.
Desktop PCs based on the Athlon XP 2100+ should be be available now from leading manufacturers worldwide. These include Compaq, Fujitsu-Siemens and NEC. The availability of the new AMD Athlon MP 2000+ processor for servers and workstations is also expected immediately by leading manufacturers. Compaq also plans to soon offer bespoke notebooks with the AMD Athlon 4 1600+ processor on an order basis. The launch is also in preparation for retail.
The Athlon XP 2100+ costs 420 US dollars, the Athlon MP 2000+ changes hands for 415 US dollars and the price of the mobile Athlon 4 1600+ is $ 380. All prices are for a purchase of 1000 pieces.
