AMD announces 3.3 THz processor

According to a report, AMD has announced a new circuit that should enable process sound with a clock rate of up to 3.3 terrahertz, together with a structure width of only 0.015 microns.

The report from The Register sounds good Initially rather implausible: Thanks to a new circuit, processors with clock rates of up to 3.3 THz should soon be possible. You read that right: 3.3 terrahertz or 3300 gigahertz. This goal is to be achieved with the help of a structure width of a tiny 0.015 microns. For comparison, the Athlon XP has a structure width of 0.18 microns. However, it was not clear from the report when this goal was to be achieved. Perhaps the current aim is to strengthen its position after Intel has long since announced a 20 GHz processor - but only on paper.
