Already 10GHz processors in 2005?
According to ZDNet, the semiconductor industry has reached a significant milestone with the first chip production machine that uses the 'extreme ultraviolet lithography' process. Unfortunately, this manufacturing process is still in the testing phase, which will last until next year at the earliest.
At the end of 2003, the devices should have reached a beta phase. The finished and final machines are expected to be available at the end of 2005. Intel expects transistor design from this manufacturing process, which should enable speeds of up to 10GHz. Then 0.07 micron chips should no longer be a problem.
