64-bit Windows in October

Microsoft will publish the 64-bit version of its server operating system 'Windows XP for Workstations' on October 25, 2001, at the same time as the 32-bit version. From the beginning, around 300 programs optimized for 64-bit Windows should be available.

Since the 64-bit Intel Itanium processor is said to be released on May 29, 2001, Microsoft wants a 'Windows XP Advanced Server Limited Edition 'in a bundle with complete systems so that Linux distributions such as SuSE, RedHat, Caldera and Turbolinux do not completely leave the market for 64-bit operating systems for a few months.
