Quake III Arena

Even if Quake III is suspected of being the target of extreme optimization efforts on the part of the driver programmer, just like the 3DMark 2001SE, it still finds attention in almost every review on the net. Also and precisely because it is almost exclusively limited by the graphics performance andBecause the engine represents the basic framework for many other current games, it is ideally suited to puff up the already grayed-out textures and polygons with FSAA, as already done, and the combination of FSAA and AF.

Even with the most extreme settings available, Quake III can still be played quite well in 1024 resolution on the Geforce4 cards . For frugal or late upgraders, their Geforce3 (possibly in the Ti version) may still do a good job.

As can be seen in the table below, Quake III stays in the simple scenarios with not too many players next higher resolution 1152x864 on the Tornado GeForce4 cards still well playable including the eye candy. The higher its memory clock, the more frames Quake III elicits. A GeForce3, on the other hand, has already reached the end of its capacity in 1024 and high quality settings.

Even if the last values seem rather weak, we can still remember how we, when Quake III appeared, a performance of just under40 fps felt like a rapid flight through the splendor of the pictures.
