Serious Sam

Serious Sam is also a popular OpenGL first person shooter with its own 3D engine. The benchmarking script 32 Bit HQ ++ from 3DCenter was used for testing (all 32 Bit Max, 32 Bit textures, etc.). The demo was a “Peaceful Night in Karnak”.

While the three GeForce4 cards are still quite close together in the two lower resolutions and can actually only set themselves apart from the GeForce3, the 1280 resolution remains playable on them with reserves, in which the GeForce3 occasionally reaches its limits. Even at the highest level, when picking up a monster with a Ti 4200 or higher, you will rarely get annoyed by annoying jerks.

Max Payne

Max Payne uses the Max-FX engine like her also already in 3DMark2001was used. There are high demands on the hardware, since very complex and expensive 3D effects are used. Despite some DirectX 8.0 functions used, static T&L according to DirectX 7.0 is still used. The PCGH benchmark mod was used with the VGA demo as a time demo; the program was only available in 32-bit color depth, with 32-bit textures. The achieved frame rates may seem a bit low to one or the other - the bench is really that tough!

Even if the gaps appear small here again, it is becoming apparent that a higher memory clock is profitable up to a resolution of 1280x1024, but larger amounts of memory partially offset this deficiency . However, even Max Payne in this configuration is certainly no reason to look for a new graphics card, the general differences are too small.
