24,000 hack attacks on the Pentagon
The hack attacks on the Pentagon are increasing. In 1998 there were 'only' 5844 hack attacks that were registered. This year there will be more than 24,000 hack attacks.
Successful hack attacks were mostly via known security holes, the have not been fixed with a patch, or can be explained by the careless attitude of some departments. The constantly new and easy-to-use hacker tools also make it easier and easier for inexperienced hackers to carry out such attacks. The plan to handle the defense strategies more and more over the network thus receives a setback, since the various networks of the Pentagon are not separated from each other. The Pentagon would like to trace the hack attacks itself, but is not allowed to do so because of the American legal system; in America, the FBI is responsible for this.
