2 million T-DSL customers
Walter Genz, spokesman for Deutsche Telekom, has now confirmed that the two millionth customer will soon be connected to T-DSL. In the last three months of 2001 in particular, demand was higher than expected.
But this boom will continue this year, although customers have been paying € 120 for the previously free modem since January 1st have to. The queue has also been reduced to 200,000 customers, which is the shortest for a long time. However, only half of those waiting will probably get a connection, since only there is the distance to the exchange short enough. Many households in the new federal states also have to wait longer, as fiber optic cables were often laid there that do not allow an ADSL connection.
