1MBit/s SkyDSL from Freenet
After the pilot project by Freenet and the exclusive partner GILAT has been successfully completed, a SkyDSL flat rate will now be offered to everyone from autumn 2001. The new thing is that the upload will now also take place via satellite, namely at a speed of 150 KBit/s.
This means that a 'conventional' dial-in is no longer necessary. The entire data transfer will therefore be handled using SkyDSL technology. This absolutely new technology will then be offered exclusively by Freenet. The download speed is expected to be 1 Mbit/s. For the flat rate with unlimited traffic volume, the customer should pay at least 179 DM per month. In addition, there are the preparation fees, which are extremely high at 799 DM. The price includes the installation of a technician, a satellite dish and the necessary PC hardware. The 'DSL-SATT' tariff is available nationwide, including outside the urban conurbations. The only condition is that the satellite dish has to be attached with a clear line of sight to the EutelSat satellite, which is located at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers. The only question that remains is what happens to the connection when the weather is bad.
