1GHz Pentium III, but only hot air?
Intel's newest processor, the Pentium III with 1GHz has been officially on the market for a week, but you can hardly buy it. The suspicion that this was more a PR campaign by the processor manufacturer is increasing more and more.
The 1GHz Pentium III has been on the market for about 1 week. Although there should only be a limited edition of the CPUs, Intel Europe has not yet received a single prototype of this CPU. The same goes for HP's test labs. IBM was just as at a loss when asked about 1GHz PIIIs, the answer was simply: 'Nothing to do!'. AMD, on the other hand, was able to deliver the 1GHz Athlons on the day of publication without any problems. Viewed across Europe, this Intel campaign was just a PR campaign that forced AMD to bring the 1GHz Athlon onto the market. And to lower the prices of the Athlon, because the 1GHz PIII is priced relatively cheap.
