1 billion surfers by 2005?
By 2005, the current number of 450 million Internet users is expected to increase to 0.7 to 1 billion. At least that's how Merrill Lynch analysts see it in a new e-commerce report. However, the online time of the individual users should only increase by 10 percent, so that the traffic would increase more slowly than in previous years.
However, this is far from providing a boost for e-commerce since the weaknesses of the sources of income continue to lie in advertising and trade turnover.
